Therapy is a confidential process and no information is disclosed to your GP as a matter of course, or without your consent; unless you specifically request that we communicate with your GP.
However, confidentiality may need to be breached in the case of a risk concern i.e. if the therapist is concerned about your safety/or the safety of others. In this case, the need to preserve your safety/safety of others would override consent.
There may be occasions where the therapist identifies a need for referral for another service/specialist via your GP. In any such case, this would be discussed with you and the option given to self-refer or to have the therapist make a referral request on your behalf.
