Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a therapy that helps you change your thoughts, feelings and behaviour to help with mental health problems like:
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Your therapist will teach you tools and techniques to help you deal with unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.
You'll work with your therapist towards goals that you set. The focus is usually on you what’s happening in your life now but you might also explore past experiences to better understand the problems you’re facing.
There’s usually a recommended number sessions based on the type of problem you want to focus on.
Counselling is a therapy that encourages you talk about difficulties in your life and make links between your thoughts and feelings.
It can help you explore problems and find solutions. This may include talking about your past to help you understand what’s happening now, but you set the direction of therapy and what you talk about.
It is more open and exploratory than CBT so there's not usually a recommended number of sessions.
